DIY Pin Holder

The idea to use an empty gum container to store things was given to me by a co-worker a few months back.  I decided to add a few things to it, to make it more decorative.  Here is the final result.

I always find myself sticking pins in different places because the case is never in the same place and the pin cushion.  With this one I can stick pins in the top,   open the top to put a pile back or just open the small hole and shake a few open.  So far this is working far better than the ones have bought.  Here's what I did:

I started with the plane gum case minus the label.

I planned to stick a pin cushion on the top with hot glue so I didn't want to leave the cover transparent.  I traced out a piece of white card stock, cut it an glued it to the inside of the cover.

Since it is still fall, I decided on a piece of fabric that has fall maple colors.  I put mod podge on the jar and stuck the fabric to it.

I put added some ribbon.  The more mod podge.

Then I took a small piece of fabric and made a pouch.  I stuffed the pouch with pieces of quilt batting that I had left over from another project.

I tucked the open end underneath and glued it to the top of the jar.  I tried to make it into a circular shape.

I added a few pieces of lace and it's done.  Won't be the last gum container that I keep.

This would be good for buttons,  safety pins,  or any other item that needs a place to be stored.
